At low tide, Chesterman Beach in Tofino becomes a natural mirror, reflecting the sky on its sand. I capture this stunning symmetry in-camera and rotate the horizon into a vertical centerline.
This simple shift breaks our brain’s habit of dismissing familiar scenes, inviting us to look longer and see the subject in a fresh way. At first, we may perceive the image as a single shape. Then, like inkblots, new details emerge, reflecting our subconscious and unique perspective. The symmetry, like a mandala, fosters balance, self-discovery, and inner calm, echoing the harmony and interconnectedness of all things.
